Ringwood is an official bounded locality in the City of Maroondah, and its postcode is 3134. The suburb boundary, postal code area, council area and council ward are separate map layers. They may overlap, but they aren't the same thing.

Use an official Victorian locality map to confirm the suburb. Then use an address search to find the ward for a property.

This difference matters when you check an address, buy a home, enrol for services or work out which council representative to contact. A map marked 3134 may include land outside Ringwood because Ringwood North shares that postcode. And a broad map pin can put a boundary property in the wrong suburb.

The registered map was approved for registration by the Registrar of Geographic Names. It was also published in the Victoria Government Gazette.

Where do Ringwood's boundaries run?

Ringwood sits in metropolitan Melbourne, east of the Melbourne central business district. The official municipal map places Ringwood beside Ringwood North and Ringwood East, with Heathmont along part of its southern side. Mitcham, Victoria lies to the west of the municipality, while Croydon, Victoria lies farther east within Maroondah.

These nearby names help you get oriented. But they don't define Ringwood's registered edge.

The same rule applies to waterways. Where a locality boundary follows a watercourse, it generally runs along the centre of the main channel unless the map depicts or defines another route. This can put properties on opposite sides of one road or watercourse in different localities.

For a property close to a line, search the full street number and street name. Don't decide from the nearest landmark. A home can be near a Ringwood shopping center, use local Ringwood services and still have a registered address in another suburb.

What postcode does Ringwood use?

Australia Post assigns 3134 to Ringwood, Victoria. Its postcode finder treats this as a delivery area. The key word is delivery.

A postcode helps sort mail. It doesn't create the legal or registered suburb boundary.

Postcode 3134 is shared by Ringwood and Ringwood North. Ringwood East uses 3135. So a 3134 map covers more than Ringwood alone.

It can't prove that an address sits inside the official Ringwood locality.

Think about an address near the northern edge. Seeing 3134 on a form may suggest Ringwood, yet the registered locality could be Ringwood North. The right address format depends on the locality recorded for that property, even though both names share the same postal code.

Use Australia Post when your question is about mail, delivery forms or postcode checks. Use the Victorian registered locality data when you need the suburb boundary. Vicmap Admin builds its postcode layer from boundary-alignment information supplied by Australia Post, but that layer stays separate from the locality layer.

Which council covers Ringwood?

Ringwood belongs to the City of Maroondah. The Victorian Government's Know Your Council listing, updated on 6 May 2026, names Maroondah as the municipality responsible for the locality.

The council handles local matters such as household waste, local roads, planning processes, community facilities and some permits. A Ringwood address doesn't mean every nearby site uses Maroondah services. Parts of the suburb meet the municipal boundary, so a short trip west or south can take you into another council area.

That's why you must check the suburb and council as separate facts. Most of Ringwood's identity fits neatly within Maroondah because Ringwood is a locality in that municipality. But postcode 3134 isn't a council outline, and a nearby business with “Ringwood” in its name isn't always part of the suburb.

How do you find the council ward for a Ringwood address?

Maroondah City Council has nine wards, with one councillor representing each ward. According to the Victorian Electoral Commission, the current wards are Barngeong, Bungalook, Jubilee, McAlpin, Tarralla, Wicklow, Wombolano, Wonga and Yarrunga.

A suburb name can't identify the right ward for every property. Ward boundaries split the municipality along their own lines, so different Ringwood addresses may fall in different wards. Those lines can also change after an electoral representation review.

Ringwood railway station, Melbourne is a handy central reference point. The train station serves the Belgrave and Lilydale lines and sits near central Ringwood. Searches for Ringwood railway often lead to station, rail corridor or service information instead of an official suburb map.

Eastland Shopping Centre is another clear reference point near Maroondah Highway and the station area. It helps you find Ringwood's activity centre on a street map. It doesn't show where Ringwood ends.
